WARSAW – The Warsaw girls soccer team has to be chompin at the bit for postseason play to begin.
Coach Peter Lucht’s young, deep and talented team now knows when that run will start.
Warsaw will face conference and county rival Wawasee on Oct. 8 in a semifinal match of the Class 2-A Plymouth Sectional.
The IHSAA conducted tournament pairings for both the girls and boys soccer state series this morning in Indianapolis.
The Warsaw ladies, who are led by senior star Liz Van Wormer, are 12-0 and ranked No. 20. The Tigers play at Wawasee tomorrow in a Northern Lakes Conference girls/boys doubleheader.
The Warsaw girls program has won five straight sectional championships. The Tigers lost 1-0 to host Goshen in a regional semifinal match last season. Barring a huge upset, Warsaw will face Penn in a regional semifinal back at Goshen this year. No. 3 Penn is 11-0-2 on the season and just hammered No. 19 South Bend St. Joseph 6-1 on Wednesday night.
Girls soccer sectionals are set for Oct. 5, 6, 8 and 10 with Plymouth (2-A) and Oak Hill (1-A) the area hosts. Regionals will be Oct. 14 and 17 at Goshen for Class 2-A and with the Oak Hill Sectional winner playing at the Bellmont Sectional winner in Class 1-A. The girls semi states are Oct. 24 with hosts being South Bend St. Joseph (2-A) and LaVille (1-A).
The Warsaw boys will also meet Wawasee in a sectional semifinal matchup, this one on the home pitch at WCHS on Oct. 7. The Tigers, who saw their sectional championship streak stopped last year, are 2-11 in a rebuilding year. Wawasee, who will host the Tigers in Syracuse on Saturday, is 3-9-1.
The boys soccer sectionals are Oct. 5, 7, 9 and 10 with Warsaw (2-A), Fort Wayne Blackhawk (1-A) and Argos (1-A) serving as hosts. Regionals are Oct. 15 and 17 at South Bend Riley (2-A), Whitko (1-A) and Argos (1-A). Semi states are Oct. 24 and Warsaw (2-A) and Argos (1-A) will host.
The State Finals for both the girls and boys is slated for Oct. 31 at IUPUI.
