ELKHART — Woodlawn Nature Center is hosting a Creatures of the Night Festival from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10. Families can take a hike along Woodlawn’s Woods to learn about creatures of the night and gather a few treats.
Participants will learn about owls, coyotes, raccoons and other nocturnal animals. Children are encouraged to wear costumes. Please dress for the weather and bring a flashlight. The event will be held rain or shine.
After the hike, visit Woodlawn Nature Center to meet nocturnal and other live animals from Foxwood Raptor and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and other community members. Participants can also make a craft and visit the Nature Center exhibits.
The Banana Slug Band often sings, “Nocturnal animals, they come at night.” Dr. Carla Gull, Education Director, mentions, “Many people are afraid of sounds at night. By getting to know the animals that come out when we go to sleep, we can better appreciate the biodiversity in our area. The Creatures of the Night Festival is a fun way to learn more about nocturnal animals and enjoy the fall season.”
The cost is $4 or $2 if you are a member, with the last entrance at 8 p.m. Have cash for the entrance fee. Coupon books will also be available for $5 to help purchase a light table and accessories for the Nature Center. Woodlawn Nature Center also seeks about eight volunteers to help that night. If available, call (574) 966-0250 or email [email protected].
