Goshen Mascot Process Set To Begin
GOSHEN – The Goshen Community School System has recently decided to change our mascot, which has been in place for many years. To make this shift occur smoothly, Goshen High School and Goshen Middle School faculty have recruited a diverse selection of students to help plan, execute and assist in this change. These students are members of the mascot steering committee.
The steering committee has an objective which is referenced every meeting to help keep a clear focus. That objective is the following: To develop a student-led process for determining the new mascot for Goshen High School and Goshen Middle School, this process will involve opportunities for as many students and community members to get involved as is possible. This objective guides all steering committee decisions.
The steering committee is happy to announce the dates for which mascot and nickname submittals are open. Beginning on Sept. 25 through Oct. 4, submittal forms will be available. Paper copies of the form will be available beginning Friday, Sept. 25, through Friday, Oct. 2, at either GMS or GHS welcome centers. Paper copies can be returned to the high school or middle school welcome centers.
Online forms may be found at www.goshenschools.org and e-mailed to [email protected].
It’s important for all submitters to know the following: Submissions will only be considered if submitted by Goshen High School alumni living within the Goshen School boundaries and GHS/GMS students. Native American symbolism or language will not be considered. The school colors of red/white will be retained. The Redskin mascot will not be used after January 1 of 2016.
