SYRACUSE — An oversize delivery drew curious glances and briefly rerouted traffic at the corner of North Main and Brooklyn streets over the lunch hour.
And this was just Act 1. Three more will follow.
A delivery for Polywood, the 60-foot tank arrived around noon on an extended-bed semi that was unable to negotiate the narrow turn west onto Brooklyn Street.
By 1 p.m., employees had delicately maneuvered the 17,000-pound load off the semi, around the corner and down Brooklyn Street by balancing it between two forklifts. Surprised drivers, meanwhile, slowed and wove past. A few diverted east on Brooklyn Street (the exit from Syracuse Elementary School).
The tank was the first of four being delivered to Polywood this week. A second is scheduled for delivery in the same manner this afternoon — hopefully before school lets out.
Two more tanks are expected to arrive tomorrow.
The tanks will be used to store recycled resin. Ross Munn, the lawn furniture company’s general manager, said the four new tanks will replace two smaller ones, taking the plant’s resin storage capacity from 100,000 pounds to approximately 1 million.
A 200,000-square-foort production facility is also currently under construction alongside the existing Polywood complex on Brooklyn Street.
