Nancy A. ShermanNancy A. Sherman, 66, a resident of Merriam, passed away at 5:40 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015, at Miller’s at Oak Pointe in Columbia City following an extended illness. She had been in declining health for some time and had been a patient there for the past two weeks.

Nancy was born in Fort Wayne on Nov. 7, 1948, a daughter of Virgil C. and Edna Mae (Butler) Sherman, and moved as a child with her parents to Merriam. She graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1967 and was a lifelong resident of Merriam.

As a young lady she had worked as a cook at the former Green Grill in Churubusco, and retired as an assembly worker from Kimball (formerly Magnavox) in Auburn when the plant closed. In her leisure time she enjoyed collecting ink pins, coffee mugs, and spending time on Facebook. She loved and cherished her family and will long be remembered as a person with a caring heart.

She attended the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Merriam.

The surviving relatives include her siblings: Norm Sherman, Churubusco; Phil (Grace) Sherman, Cromwell; Barbara Campbell, Columbia City; Willard “Willie” (Salley) Sherman, Albion; Rick (Alicia) Sherman, Columbia City; Kathy (Jason) Hostetler, Milford; and Jennifer (Mike) Patterson, Albion; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: Janice Mann; and by five brothers: Michael; Clyde “Red”; Lester “Les”; Paul; and Kerry Sherman.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, or one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 service, both at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco. Rev. George Cecil, pastor of Cornerstone Wesleyan Church will officiate.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
