Walt SteffenWalter Roy “Walt” Steffen, 87, of Syracuse, passed away at 7:02 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Greencroft Health Care in Goshen. He was born on March 6, 1928, in Elgin, to Theophile E. and Mabel M. (Wewetzer) Steffen.

He attended Elgin High School in Elgin, and on June 4, 1950 in Milford, he married Dorothy M. “Dot” Haab who preceded him on Oct. 10, 2014. He moved to Milford in 1952 from Elgin, where he had worked at a watch factory. He retired from Johnson Controls as a tool and die maker after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Milford where he was also a minister for 30 years. He served as volunteer chaplain at Goshen Hospital for many years.

He is survived by five daughters: Pat (Wade) Stoller, South Bend; Shirley Stoller, Paulding, Ohio; Marlene Bokholdt, Downers Grove, Ill.; Kristi (Niles) Miller, Syracuse; and Caralee Steffen, Goshen; two sons: Richard (Gwen) Steffen, New Paris; and Timothy (Marla) Steffen, Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Louise Steffen, Elgin, Ill.; Helen Steffen, Phoenix, Ariz.; Lenora Steffen, Elgin, Ill.; Jeanne (Richard) Stoller, LaJolla, Calif.; Gladys (Don) Kauffman, Bloomington, Ill.; and two brothers: Dale (Sharon) Steffen, Rancho Sante Fe, Calif.; and Albert (Shirley) Steffen, Stuart, Fla.

He was preceded by his parents; wife; daughter: Bonnie Steffen; sister: Rosemary Reckhemmer; two brothers: Raymond and Earl Steffen; and two sons-in-law: Mark Stoller; and Alexander Bokholdt.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall, Milford. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Apostolic Christian Church with Daron Price and Randy Beer, ministers of the church, officiating. Burial will take place in Milford Cemetery.
