Labor Day Closing
The library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. If you need to return items while we are closed, there are drop boxes at the south end of the building for DVD’s and books. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. Have a safe, happy Labor Day weekend.
Lego Crew
Lego Crew is scheduled from 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 12. On the second Saturday of each month we get together and let our imaginations run wild. We provide the Legos, you provide your creativity and imagination. Call with questions.
Adult Craft Night
Coming up Sept. 14, adult craft night at the library is back. After taking a break during the summer months, we invite you to come to the library at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14 and make some ceramic tile coasters. Bring at least four photos/images to use to decorate your coasters. Register at the adult circulation desk. The craft costs $8 for four coasters. You must be registered by 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in order for us to have enough materials for everyone on Monday. All supplies will be provided. You just need to bring photos or images you want to put on the coasters. The coasters are on display at the adult circulation desk, so come in and take a look. Coasters make a fantastic, inexpensive, but personal gift. Our craft nights are informal and fun, so sign up today.
Preschool Story Time and Infant Lapsit
Fall story time is here. Our seven-week session begins for preschool children ages 3-6 on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Wednesdays times are 10:15 a.m., 1:30 a.m. or 7 p.m. Thursdays, for stories, activities, and a snack. The themes this fall are: colors of fall, whooo likes storytime?, leaves and apples, batty for books, scarecrows and pumpkins, squirrels and nuts, and the annual Thanksgiving feast. Staff will share some great new children’s books and some old favorites.
Reading to your children is so important. Each story time is about 45 minutes long and includes listening to stories, making a craft or playing games, and sharing a nutritious snack. Sign-up starts soon.
We offer a lapsit story time for children ages 0 to 36 months. Bring your little ones for four weeks of stories, songs and fingerplays with staff. Our theme this fall is apples. Lapsit begins on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and continues at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday in October. Sign-up starts soon in the children’s department. If you have any questions, just give us a call at (574) 658-4312.
Download and Keep Free Music
Freegal is like iTunes, but is free to patrons of the Milford Library. Instead of paying per download, you get up to five songs for free each week. That’s 260 songs a year. Freegal has access to over nine million songs through the Sony Music Catalog. They’re constantly adding content, but the most popular songs can be found easily by browsing their home page. With over 100 genres, you can find artists as diverse as Miranda Lambert and Amy Winehouse.
The counter resets every Monday, so you can begin your work week building an awesome playlist. And you don’t need to write that down. Freegal can send automatic emails each Monday to remind you. All you have to do to login is type in your library card number and four digit pin, which can be retrieved by asking a librarian. You can download songs on your computer, MP3 player, or through the Freegal app on Android or Apple devices. Songs download in MP3 format.
When you run out of weekly downloads, use the wishlist to save up for the following week. Artists like Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Gavin DeGraw, Adele, and Walk the Moon have several albums available to download. Kids may enjoy listening to Kidz Bop or One Direction. Music videos are also available, but they take three of the weekly allotted downloads. If you’re having problems, just come into the library with your laptop or phone and a librarian will help you through the process.
