
James “Jim” Martin Beer, 69, left his earthly home on July 5, 2020, surrounded by those who loved him most. Jim was born Oct. 2, 1950 in Milford to Donald Sr. and Ruth (Rarig) Beer. He married Deborah Jessop on Nov. 28, 1970.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Deborah; his children, Jared (Rebecca) Beer, Joseph Beer, James Martin Beer II, Cameron (Michelle) Beer, and Candace (Jeffrey) Adams. He was adored by his 14 grandchildren who knew that their grandpa poured every bit of himself into making sure his family was cared for. Also surviving are his siblings Carol (Dane) Rumfelt, Joyce Nickelson, Jack (Donna) Beer, and Donald (Nancy) Beer. Jim was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend to everyone.
Jim grew up in Milford, and worked on his family farm for many years before joining the Kosciusko County Highway Department where he served faithfully for 24 years of well-respected service. He spent his years of retirement enjoying spending time with his family, watching Westerns, and tending to his yard, a task which brought him great satisfaction. A member of the first graduating class of Wawasee High School in 1969, he enjoyed playing basketball during his early years and rarely missed one of his children’s sporting events or a Notre Dame football game. Jim grew up in the Milford Apostolic Christian Church and later was a 50 year member of the Milford First Brethren Church.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Ruth Beer and a brother in law, Dan Nickelson. The family would like to extend their most sincere thank you to those who showed such overwhelming love and support during Jim’s final days.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 10, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Milford First Brethren Church, 110 W. Catherine Street, Milford, IN 46542. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 11, beginning at 10 a.m. at Milford First Brethren Church, Milford, Pastor Lee Compson will be officiating. A graveside service will follow during which Jim will be laid to rest with his parents at Milford Cemetery.
