SOUTH BEND – NorthWood sophomore Riley Kitson added a nice trophy to the shelf Tuesday, taking first place at the Lifestyle Junior Golf Tour event at Erskine Golf Course.

Kitson used a birdie on the 11th to shoot a round of 97 to take honors in the 14-15 girls division, topping eight other golfers.

The event itself saw a host of competitors from northern Indiana take part among 12 different age divisions.

Two locals also won age group play, with Nappanee’s Sophie Richmond taking first in the 12-13 division with a plus-five, and Wawasee graduate Zach Leedy fired an 83 to lead the collegiate men.

Other notables from the direct area to place in tournament play included NorthWood’s Cooper Wiens in fifth in the boys 16-19 group, schoolmate Earl Williams placing seventh in the 14-15 group, three in the top 15 of the 12-13 group in Wes Parker of Silver Lake, Preston Scherer of Syracuse and Collin Goss of Nappanee, and Carson Scherer of Syracuse seventh in the 10-11 group.

A pair of NorthWood area girls also competed with Kira Schrock in the 16-19 girls group and Addie Davis in the 12-13 group.

Locals Pepper Boards At Zollner

The Howard Bailey Junior Tour carried on Tuesday with a stop at Zollner Golf Course in Angola.

NorthWood’s Breanna Goss shot an 84 to finish third in the girls 16-19 age group competition, four shots better than Wawasee’s Belle Brunner, who had an 88. Allyson Stuckey of Auburn won the daily competition with a four-over round of 75.

Silas Haarer of Middlebury claimed honors in the boys 13-15 division, shooting a round of 76. Syracuse’s Cam Heinisch tied for eighth in the standings with an 85, and Winona Lake’s Austin Craig finished with a 107 for 14th place.

Also winning division play on Tuesday were Cassidy Ayres of Fort Wayne in the girls 13-15 and Levi Follett of Garrett in the boys 16-19.
