Shirley Mae Greer

Shirley Mae Greer formerly of Syracuse, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020, at Solaris Healthcare in Port Charlotte, Florida at the age of 85.

She was born on Sept. 16, 1934, in Silver Lake, to Alice (Courtney) Gaut and Arthur Hogan. She was married to Leonard H. Greer who has since passed away.

Shirley lived for many years in Syracuse, where she raised her children and was a proud homemaker. She was a strong-willed and opinionated woman. Shirley had a mind of her own and kept true to her feistiness. She had attended various churches throughout her life and was never one to shy away from meeting new people. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and then watching them become parents. Shirley wasn’t your typical grandma, but she loved the many different personalities of her great-grandchildren. Later in her life she moved to Port Charlotte, Florida where she passed away and will be dearly missed by her Florida family and her Indiana family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Marcia (Mike) Cashatt, North Port Charlotte, Fla.; Marcia (LeRoy) Moon, Elkhart; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law: Barbara Vandermark, Larwill; and Sue Greer, Warsaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, and her two sons, Chuck Greer and Robert “Bob” Vandermark.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, May 18, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Due to the current, unprecedented guidelines limiting public gatherings because of the COVID-19 virus and safety concerns the visitation is limited to 25 people at a time. Please use good judgment in determining the length of your visit or if you should attend. There will be no congregating in the parking lot and physical distancing of six feet is mandatory.

Shirley’s life will be celebrated with a service following visitation at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 18, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery in Larwill, Indiana, please follow social distancing guidelines at the cemetery as well.
