Court paperwork said Kilpatrick has a history of emotional control issues.
The officer then spoke with Kilpatrick, who admitted to hitting the man in the head with a space heater in anger.
The man was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. According to court paperwork, officers received a report from the hospital indicating that the man was in critical condition.
