WARSAW – Kosciusko County’s three incumbent at-large representatives on County Council will have a Republican challenger in the May 5 primary.

Kathleen Groninger, of Mentone, filed to run for one of the three at-large seats shortly before the Friday, Feb. 7 deadline.

Groninger is married to Kosciusko County Commissioner Cary Groninger, who is filling out his term after being appointed in 2017. He is also seeking re-election this year.

Kathleen Groninger will face incumbent Republicans Kimberly Cates, of Syracuse; Joni Truex, of Warsaw; and Sue Ann Mitchell, of Warsaw.

The four-way battle is one of three contested races that will appear on the county level in the Republican primary.

No Democrats filed for county races.

The other two competitive races are a commissioner’s seat and a judgeship.

Incumbent Brad Jackson, of Syracuse, will face Marcia Baumgartner, of Milford, for the northern district commissioner’s seat.

Four people are running for Superior 3, where incumbent Joe Sutton chose not to run again. The four include Lindsey Grossnickle, of Warsaw; Chad Miner, of Silver Lake; Robert Bishop, of Warsaw; and Karin McGrath, Warsaw.
