BERRIEN COUNTY, MICH. — Michigan State Police report the arrest of William Stanson in Mexico days after he was featured on the TV show “In Pursuit with John Walsh.”

Tips came in quickly after the show aired on Investigative Discovery Network, and led directly to Stanson’s location.

Stanson’s arrest was a result of cooperation between the public and several law enforcement agencies in the US and in Mexico, including the Michigan State Police.

According to police, 53-year-old Stanson was charged with first degree sexual assault of a minor and accosting a minor in 2015, and has been on the run ever since.

According to officials, the FBI got a warrant for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) and asked for help from their Mexico law enforcement partners in Baja California.

Stanson was extradited to the US this morning, and will be brought to Berrien County where he will face full charges for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, first degree criminal sexual conduct, and failure to appear for sentencing on the original charge of accosting a minor.

Law enforcement officers thank the family of the victims for their help and cooperation.
