WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested after battering a woman while violating a protective order.

Nicholas Scott Phillips, 35, 1492 S. Wausau St., Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony; domestic battery and invasion of privacy, both class A misdemeanors.

On Jan. 19, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department went to a local hospital regarding a woman who had been brought there for a mental health evaluation. The officer spoke with Phillips, who said he had brought the woman there because she had grabbed the steering wheel of the car they were in.

According to court documents, the woman said Phillips had been abusing her. The woman told the officer about taking her two children to a bowling alley without telling Phillips where she was going. Phillips then allegedly called the woman while she was at the bowling alley and showed up there. The woman agreed to go with Scott to talk and get him away from the children.

Once in the car with Phillips, an argument began and Phillips reached over and ripped a ring off of the woman’s hand. While doing this, Phillips nearly ran off the road with the vehicle. The officer noticed lacerations on the woman’s hand as a result of Phillips’ actions.

The officer also spoke with the two children, who confirmed the abusive allegations made by the woman. Phillips was arrested for domestic battery against the woman in Nashville, Tenn., on Dec. 4, 2019. The woman was in Nashville for work when Phillips showed up uninvited. When the woman told Phillips he would have to leave, he became irate, grabbed the woman and head-butted her, causing injury.

As a condition of the Tennessee case, an order was entered prohibiting Phillips from having direct or indirect contact with the woman.

Phillips was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 19, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
