Wawasee Robotics Clashes With Worlds Qualified Titans

ZIONSVILLE — The Zionsville Tourney Saturday, Jan. 25, brought together the best teams from southern, central and northern Indiana. All four teams in the finals match face-off were undefeated up to that point, having won each of their nine matches of the day.

Third ranked 7701X Xenith of Zionsville High School chose fifth ranked 574C, setting off a clash against the world championship qualified Titans, 6842Z Pigpen of Park Tudor, Indy and 7701T Tesseract of Zionsville High School, with 574C finishing the day as tournament finalists.

574H and 574G finished the qualification rounds at 2-4-0 and 0-5-1, respectively. Wawasee Robotics placed four teams in the elimination rounds. 574B (rank 24, 3-3-0) and 574F (rank 21, 4-2,0) fought hard in the round of 16. 574A (rank 7, 5-1-0) was an alliance captain, choosing 2567K Porta-Botz KBot (rank nine, 5-1-0) of Portage High School and charged to the quarterfinals.

Next, 574C & 574D travel to Virginia, competing in the worlds qualifying invitational signature event: Night at the Museum. C & D will compete at the National Air & Space Museum in Chantilly, Va. Teams will practice on fields under the thrusters of the space shuttle Discovery. Competition and skills fields will be back-dropped by the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a retired reconnaissance aircraft used throughout the Cold War.

574A — seventh rank, 33rd robot skills

574F — 21st rank, 30th robot skills

574B — 24th rank

574H (middle school) — 38th rank, 25th robot skills

574G — 56th rank, 23rd robot skills

Highlights:

574C went undefeated in qualifications

Four teams made eliminations, 574F, 574B, 574A, 574C

574A had a great finish at seventh

574G put up Wawasee’s highest skills score for the day

What is next:

The next local tournament is Saturday, Feb. 8, at Plymouth High School, 1 Big Red Drive. Qualification starts at 9:30 a.m., finals at 3 p.m., awards and closing ceremonies to follow.
