PORTAGE — A statewide Silver Alert has been declared for a Portage man.

The Portage Police Department is investigating the disappearance of Joseph W. Thomas, an 82-year-old black male who is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. He has gray hair with brown eyes and was last seen wearing a blue winter coat and a knit stocking hat.

Thomas is missing from Portage, which is 156 miles northwest of Indianapolis and was last seen at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25. He is believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance.
