WARSAW — A Columbia City man is facing three criminal charges, including strangulation.

Homer Joe Knight, 26, 1455 West Buddale Drive, Columbia City, faces charges following a warrant arrest for strangulation, a level 6 felony; domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor; and domestic battery sentence enchantment, a level 6 felony.

On Sept. 19, 2019, an officer with Warsaw Police responded to a report of domestic battery. The victim said an argument between her and Knight became physical. He allegedly grabbed her by the neck with both hands and began squeezing. She said Knight pinned her against the wall, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

She said she could not breathe and started losing consciousness. Knight reportedly let go of the victim once she began to lose consciousness and slide down the wall. He then allegedly pushed her head into the wall.

The officer said the victim suffered bruising on her wrist and cheek, cuts on her face and swollen eyes. She also had red marks on her neck that appeared to be from the alleged strangulation, said the affidavit.

The affidavit did not specify if Knight was still at the residence on Sept. 19.

After meeting with the victim, police contacted Knight, who confirmed the alleged argument. He also allegedly confirmed that the argument escalated physically, said the affidavit. He said the argument escalated after the victim pushed him and he pushed back.

Knight was previously convicted of domestic battery on Dec. 26, 2012 in Whitley County Superior Court.

On Jan. 15, 2019, Knight was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail with a bond of $10,250 surety and cash.
