Walter Gilbert, 92, Syracuse, passed away on Dec. 13, 2019, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Syracuse.

He was born on May 22, 1927, in Syracuse to James & Mary (Hendrickson) Gilbert. He was a lifelong area resident. He served in the US Army during both WWII as well as the Korean Conflict. He worked for Nicolai Machine Shop, Sea Nymph, operated a Mechanic Shop in Syracuse, and served on the Syracuse Fire Department for 17 years.

He was a member of the North Webster American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years: Mildred Gilbert of Syracuse; one daughter: Nina (Dave) Thierer of Fort Wayne; one step-daughter: Vicki (Francis) Means of Syracuse; one step-son: Kevin (Pamala) Gilbert of Suracuse. Many grand and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his first wife: Bonnie; one son Andrew, and one granddaughter Bonnie; three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20, at the Eastlund Funeral Home with calling two hours prior from 11-1. Burial will follow with full military rites at the Syracuse cemetery
