WARSAW — A Warsaw woman was recently arrested after allegedly changing UPC codes on merchandise at Walmart.

Tea Marie Peltz, 21, 507 E. Market St., Warsaw, is charged with five counts of making a false sales document, all level 6 felonies; and five counts of theft, all class A misdemeanors.

On Aug. 12, a Warsaw Police officer spoke with an employee who said she had been reviewing security footage of transactions involving Peltz and a second woman, identified as Latisha Hernandez. According to court documents, the employee said Hernandez and Peltz had been using UPC stickers from cheap items to self-scan expensive items.

Court paperwork claims that Peltz, often with the help of Hernandez, changed UPC codes at the store on June 26, July 7, July 11, and July 13.

The total value of the merchandise was estimated to be $547.44.

Peltz has a pending criminal case for making a false sales document and theft in Kosciusko Superior Court 3, as well as a pending criminal case for theft in Kosciusko Superior Court 2.

Peltz was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Dec. 11, with a $2,750 surety and cash bond. Hernandez has a status conference scheduled for this case on Jan. 15.
