WARSAW — A Warsaw man received a suspended sentence on Monday, Dec. 9, after breaking into a home and attempting to sell methamphetamine.
Jonathan Carlie Shepherd, 30, 3451 E. Pleasant Grove Drive, Warsaw, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and residential entry, both level 6 felonies; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor. A charge of dealing in methamphetamine was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
On March 5, an officer with Warsaw Police responded to a report of an unwanted person attempting to sell methamphetamine at a residence.
According to court documents, a woman at the residence said she was in the shower when she heard her entry door being opened. She got dressed and entered the living room as a man she did not know – later identified as Shepherd – entered the residence. Shepherd told her he was there to sell methamphetamine.
She called police and when officers arrived, they saw Shepherd sitting on a couch with a plate on his lap and a piece of folded foil on the plate. Shepherd told the officers “it’s just sugar.” Officers took possession of the plate and saw a small amount of methamphetamine. Officers also found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine.
For the possession of methamphetamine charge, Kosciusko County Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed sentenced Shepherd to one year in the Kosciusko County Jail. For residential entry, Shepherd was sentenced to one year in the KCJ. He was also sentenced to 60 days in the KCJ for possession of paraphernalia. All of the counts were suspended on formal probation. Shepherd also has 232 days of jail time credit in this case.
