Awards Presented At Silver Lake Christmas Dinner

SILVER LAKE — The Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department held its annual Christmas dinner on Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Silver Lake fire station.

The annual Christmas dinner is for current and retired firefighters and their families. Silver Lake residents are invited, along with members of the township boards and their families. On-duty Parkview crews are invited as well.

The firefighter of the year award is given out at the dinner, as well as plaques and certificates for years of service, retirement and other honors.

Terry Baker was chosen as SL Firefighter of the Year. Second Lieutenant Joey McNeal received a plaque for 10 years of service at the department. 

Assistant Chief Morris Jones, 1st Lieutenant Mike Weller, Training Office Addison Allen and McNeal received “Atta Boy” awards for going above and beyond in assisting SL Fire Chief John Conley.

“I want to thank all of my firefighters. They do a good job for the department and the community,” Conley said. “Thank you to the town board, township advisory board, town clerk and the trustee for their support of the department.”

A plaque was presented to Metzger Trucking, Silver Lake, for their support of the SL Fire Department. Ben Metzger accepted the plaque on behalf of Metzger Trucking.

Santa Claus stopped by again this year to visit with the children at the dinner event.

According to Conley, approximately 60 people attended the dinner.
