WARSAW — A second-grade class from Harrison Elementary School brought donated food items from the school’s annual food drive to Combined Community Services on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

In total, the elementary school donated more than 3,200 food items and raised $748.70 for CCS.

Mrs. Pam Brail’s class was the overall winner with the most donations for the food drive. One student in Brail’s class brought in more than 500 items.

“That student’s parents are former students of mine,” said Scott Melhberg, Harrison Elementary physical education teacher. “They both have passed on this amazing tradition to their young daughter of bringing in food and donating.”

“The winning class gets a party and also gets to carry some of the food collected from Harrison over to CCS,” said Melhberg. “And for that little girl who brought in so much, it wasn’t about the competition and winning. She was just very excited to get to help people.”

Students were escorted from Harrison Elementary to CCS by Officers Joel Beam and Justin Curtis with the Warsaw Police Department.
