SYRACUSE — Paula Kehr-Wicker, Republican, was elected to her second term as clerk-treasurer for the town of Syracuse following Tuesday’s municipal election. She defeated her Democratic opponent Tim Yeager.

Kehr-Wicker received 109 votes to Yeager’s 34 votes, carrying all four of the town precincts.

Also winning were Tom Hoover, Syracuse Council District 3; Larry Marindale, Syracuse Council District 4; and Bill Musser, Syracuse Council District 5. All three were unopposed.

Poll workers reported a slow turnout throughout the day with only approximately 50 voters coming to the polls by 10 a.m. Workers noted a number of people arrived at the polls for their civic duty only to learn they did not live in the town limits and were not eligible to vote. There were also those who were slightly confused on the poll location change within the Syracuse Community Center. Instead of casting votes in the gymnasium, the polling location was set up in Celebration Hall.

When the ballots were tabulated, the town only had 151 registered voters cast ballots out of the 3,780 registered or a 3.99 percent turnout.

Turkey Creek 4 Precinct had the highest turnout with 6.27 percent of its registered voters going to the poll. Precinct 5 had the lowest turnout with .83 percent.

The precinct summary report, generated by the county’s election system, shows a number of the voters opted to vote straight party tickets. In fact in Turkey Creek Precinct 5 there were nine straight party ticket votes — one Democrat and eight Republican — out of the 10 votes cast.
