FRANCESVILLE – After a year away, Triton revisited the championship pose Saturday night.

The Trojans put away Oregon-Davis, 3-1, to stand tall as the Class 1-A volleyball sectional champion at West Central. Triton rallied from a 26-24 loss in the first game to stuff the Bobcats 25-10, 25-13, 25-13. It was the fifth title Triton has won in the past six years after winning four straight from 2014-17.

After a monster morning in a win against the host West Central side, Abbey Viers continued to pound the ball. Viers led Triton with 23 kills in the championship, and for the day had 45 hammers in total.

Lexia Hostrawser led the team with four aces, two blocks and contributed 14 kills, and once again Triton’s assistance was true as Emma Hepler and Dylanie Miller teamed for 43 assists. Alyxa Viers and Jaela Faulkner commanded the back line with 35 combined digs, and both Faulkner and Hepler added a pair of aces.

Triton moves to 16-16 on the season and will anticipate a matchup with Morgan Township in the first game of the Culver Regional next Saturday. The game is posted to begin at 11 a.m. at Culver, the first of two contests, game two pitting Lakewood Park against the 1-A defending state runner-up Pioneer. The Culver championship is set for 7 p.m.

Triton is seeking its third regional championship, but its first since the program went back-to-back in 2001 and 2002.
