WARSAW — Longtime Kosciusko County Animal Control Officer Jerry Clase has resigned.

County Administrator Marsha McSherry confirmed on Tuesday that Friday, Oct. 11, was Clase’s last day in that role.

Clase served as the animal control officer for about 30 years and during that time was the subject of numerous complaints. In 2010, the county reportedly received 16 complaints against Clase. After a review, county commissioners found that none could be proven.

Most recently, Clase was suspended by commissioners for five days without pay in July, following an investigation involving his handling of a situation in Etna Green.

Despite the criticisms, Clase still had his supporters in county government.

“I appreciate Jerry’s many years of service. Even though there has been some controversy at times, I always felt that Jerry’s heart was in the right place and that he wanted to do the right thing for Kosciusko County residents,” said Kosciusko County Commissioner Vice-President Brad Jackson said.

“I wish Jerry all the best in his retirement.”
