UPDATE: Cause Of Milford Fire Undetermined

Firefighters enter the residence to battle the fire from the interior, while flames are still apparent on the wood deck.

MILFORD — The cause of a fire that destroyed the home and contents at 305 E. 1150N, Milford, Monday afternoon remains undetermined according to Milford Fire Chief Todd Haines.

No one was at home when a fire broke out shortly after noon. The home was occupied by Thomas Crabtree, Tim and Cathy Crabtree.

Neighbors saw the fire and notified authorities. Milford Fire Department, with assistance from Plain Township and Turkey Creek Fire Territory, responded.

When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed and had broken through the front of the home and caught some of the grass on fire. Heavy smoke was also coming from eaves and vents.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire from the interior and from the roof. Fire was also found in the exterior wall after siding was removed.

The origin and cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time. Firefighters were still at the scene until approximately 2:30 p.m.

All animals in the home were able to make it out of the home.

American Red Cross, Kosciusko County Chapter, was called to provide temporary housing for the Crabtrees. Also responding was Lutheran EMS and 1-800-Board-Up.

The home and its contents are listed as a total loss.
