SYRACUSE — Minor damage due to smoke was reported in an apartment downtown Syracuse Sunday evening, Sept. 29.

Turkey Creek Fire Territory was called to 100 E. Main St., a building owned by Mullett Properties, at 5:10 p.m. when the Kosciusko County Communications Center received a call of a smoke detector going off and an apartment was filling with smoke.

Fire officials found objects were left on a flat top range (electric stove) that began burning. The apartment was ventilated of smoke.

The apartment is located on the south side of the top floor.
