PIERCETON — The Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County will be transitioning to its new facility starting Saturday, Sept. 21.
The current shelter, at 3489 E. CR 100S, Pierceton, will be operational from Monday, Sept. 16, to Friday, Sept. 20. No abandonment kennels are located outside. Anyone with stray animals can only drop off the animals during business hours. After-hours drop-offs are only available to law enforcement. Owner surrenders are asked to hold their pets until after Sept. 28, according to a news release from AWL.
From Sept. 18 to 20, adoptable cats will be transferred to the small dog adoption room so existing kennels can be removed, sanitized and installed in the new facility.
AWL staff will be moving animals to the new shelter at 1048 S. CR 325E, Pierceton, from Saturday, Sept. 21 to Friday, Sept. 27. During that time, the shelter will be closed to the public and no adoptions will take place. No public surrenders or strays will be accepted during that time. Stray animals can only be brought to the shelter by law enforcement.
Beginning Sept. 28, at the new shelter, animal surrenders during business hours will be conducted on the south side of the building. No abandonment kennels will be available outside. After-hours drop-offs are only available to law enforcement.
In partnership with Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group and their Home for Dogs event, the AWL will have their official grand opening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.
Every year, Coldwell Banker groups across the country partner with local shelters to adopt animals out into new homes.
As part of the grand opening, the public can enjoy an on-site garage sale, vendor access, a food truck and reduced adoption fees.
