PIERCETON — After 17 years of service, Corporal Jim Bumbaugh is resigning from the Pierceton Police Department effective Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Town Marshal Tim Sammons announced Bumbaugh’s resignation during the Pierceton Town Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 9. Bumbaugh has accepted a full-time position with Whitko Community Schools as the corporation’s transportation director. At the meeting, Sammons presented Bumbaugh with a shadow box recognizing his years of service to the police department and the community.

“This department is being left in very good hands,” said Bumbaugh. “It has been an honor and a great privilege to have served the town of Pierceton, and I am forever grateful to everyone in town.”

The Pierceton Police Department is also actively accepting employment applications for a full-time police officer. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.

In other business, the Pierceton Fire Department will host its annual fire prevention open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. The event is free and open to the public. Activities include CPR practice, making a first aid kit, using a fire extinguisher and K-9 demonstrations.

The Pierceton Town Council also agreed to pay half of an insurance deductible for Brenda Reed. Reed’s residence flooded due to an issue with the town’s water tower.

The town council’s next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14.
