WARSAW — Scouts from Troop 715 in Warsaw and Winona Lake and Troop 782 from Burket hiked through part of southern Indiana this summer.

Everything they needed for four days had to be carried on their backs. This included food, sleeping gear, clothes, small LP single burner camp stoves, and most importantly, water.

Their sleeping gear included lightweight hammocks with tarps over the top to protect them from the rain. The meals were all freeze-dried and brought to life with boiled water.  While not being mother’s homemade meals, the food became tasty after miles of hiking. It took longer, and more energy hiking the trails with a full backpack.

They hiked 32 miles in the southern foothills of Indiana and found it to be very rewarding. Don Irwin served as a driver to pick them up at the end of the trail.

They celebrated at an Italian Restaurant with lots of pizza before heading home.
