WARSAW — A Florida woman was recently arrested after allegedly using a woman’s credit card without permission in 2018.

Amber Nicole Bontrager, 39, 10715 Amos Ave., Hastings, Fla., is being charged with fraud on a financial institution, a level 5 felony; and two counts of fraud and forgery, all level 6 felonies.

On April 30, 2018, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office spoke with a woman regarding fraud. The woman told the officer that on April 27, she and a man were at Dollar General when she allowed him to use her credit card to purchase soft drinks.

According to court documents, the woman attempted to use her card the next day and could not find it. After contacting her bank, Interra Credit Union, and canceling the credit card, she learned that on April 28, her credit card had been used several times to purchase items without her permission.

On April 27, the card was used at Dairy Queen for $59.46. It was also used several times on April 28 at various locations in Kosciusko County, including at Dollar General for $251.21; Lance’s New Market for $208.90; Sunoco for $130.03; ShopKo for $287.53; Beef Booze Barn for $85.11; and $477.07 at Meijer.

The officer went to Dollar General and Meijer to obtain surveillance video. While viewing the surveillance videos, the officer saw a woman, identified as Bontrager, using the victim’s credit card to make purchases.

The officer also spoke with a security specialist at Interra Bank, who said the woman’s credit card was credited by the bank, causing the bank to lose $1,430.61.

While Bontrager was seen in the video using the card, the court documents don’t explain how she came into possession of the card.

Bontrager was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on July 27, 2019, with a $12,500 surety and cash bond.
