Joanne Marie Shartzer, 80, Syracuse, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse. She was born on Jan. 19, 1939, in Blissfield, Mich. to Don Ray and Ethel R. (Griffen) Case.

She graduated from Blissfield High School and moved to the Syracuse area in 1984 from Shipshewana. She formerly cleaned houses and was a caretaker at Pickwick Park in Syracuse for ten years.

She was a member of the Syracuse Church of God, Eagles Lodge in Syracuse, American Legion Auxiliary in Syracuse, V.F.W. Auxiliary in Goshen, and Red Hats of Milford and Syracuse.

She is survived by her daughter: Kathy (Parker) McCool, Yucaipa, Calif.; two sons: Russell Wade (Hope) Shartzer, Wolcottville; Kyle Dean Miller, Fort Wayne; step-son: Eddie (Barb) Shartzer, Virginia; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jill (Bill) Eddings, Lyons, Ohio; and Donna (Gaylon) Smith, Harlington, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter – Jackie Ellen Miller, sister – Agnes Kinsman, and brother – Michael Case.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. SR 15, Warsaw. A memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, in the Church of God, 104 E. Washington St., Syracuse, with Pastor Stan Owen officiating. Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
