
Dr. Timothy Ravencroft DDS, 79, Rochester passed away at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
On June 16, 1940, he was born in Rochester. He was a treasured son of Edward F. and Vivian Anderson Ravencroft. Growing up he shared his childhood with an older brother brother, Tom. He played basketball, football and ran track at Rochester High School. He graduated in 1958.
Following high school, Tim continued his education to pursue a dream of becoming a dentist. He earned a bachelor of science in pre-dentistry at Indiana University at Bloomington. Tim continued his studies at Indiana University Dental School in Indianapolis earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery. He was beckoned to serve our country during the Vietnam War. He served with the United States Navy, being honorably discharged as Lt. Dr. Timothy Ravencroft DDS. During his stint in Vietnam, he earned many medals and ribbons for his service and great care to his fellow soldiers.
Returning stateside, Dr. Tim initiated his practice of family dentistry in North Judson. In 1969 he opened his dental office in Fulton. Eleven years later, in 1980, Dr. Ravencroft opened his first Rochester location on East 7th Street. Three decades later, Dr. Tim moved to his present location serving his patients on East 9th Street. He was a man of great skill and compassion always there for his patients, with his career spanning over 50 years. Dr. Tim considered his office team Pam Eikenberry, Tracy Honkomp, Kira Meyer and Carmen Dielman as members of his family.
In 1990, an office and chair-side assistant was needed, and Ruth Ann Bowers Smith was hired. After becoming better acquainted, dating, then falling in love, on Sept. 5, 1992, Dr. Tim married the love of his life, Ruth Ann. They shared over 26 years of life’s adventures.
During the earlier years, Ruth Ann and Dr. Tim enjoyed taking golf vacations to destinations with unique and challenging golf courses. There were memorable trips to Arizona, Mexico and Michigan. They also enjoyed dining out and taking their family to special restaurants. Dr. Tim was a pizza connoisseur. He enjoyed a variety of pizzas and knew the best pizzerias around.
Using a 5-iron at the Elk’s Club golf course on the old # 4 green, Dr. Tim once sunk a hole in one. An avid golfer, his favorite course was the Rochester Elks. In earlier years, Dr. Tim enjoyed the sport of fishing.
Seated in his recliner, he cheered for the Bears, Cubs, all Indiana University teams and Notre Dame football. Dr. Tim was passionate about jazz music and shared his appreciation with his family. Always at his side, relaxing in the recliner or doing errands around town was his lovely German short-haired Pointer Annika.
Left to cherish Dr. Tim’s memory are his wife, Ruth Ann; a daughter, Lyndee Duhnovsky and husband Shawn, Culver; two sons, Jacob Smith and wife Michelle, Logansport, Joshua Smith and wife Sumer, Amherst, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Abigail, Jack and Madelyn Duhnovsky, Kaleigh, Evan, Fletcher and Amelia Smith, Hananiah, Aubrey and Olivia Smith; a brother, Thomas A. Ravencroft and wife Janet, Rochester; niece, Catherine Simmons and husband Dave; nephew, Timothy Stewart Ravencroft; his many patients he cared for during life’s journey; and his canine companion, Annika.
Preceding Dr. Tim in death are his parents and a niece, Julie Ravencroft.
A celebration of the life of Dr. Timothy Ravencroft will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St. Rochester. Pastor Terry Baldwin will officiate.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 1, and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard and the US Navy Honor Team. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
