SYRACUSE — Do you enjoy tap dance, making crafts, writing code or geocaching? The summer is here and the Syracuse Library has new, educational and fun offerings for all ages. What is usual for some people might be new for someone else and the library is a great place to give something a try.

Here is a reminder for workers getting laid off just a few weeks at a time and here and there. WorkOne gives free information and advice to help you get all the unemployment money coming to you. A staff member is at the Syracuse Library from 1 to 4:30 p.m. each Wednesday.

Adults looking forward to applying for Social Security benefits have an opportunity to ask an expert to explain options. A new monthly presentation is coming for small groups, once a month, starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19.

Samples From The Week

Geocaching is a great geek, adventure and outdoor activity. People who are fans of the online GPS scavenger game are always enthused about meeting people that are interested in discovering geocaching. The Syracuse Library is providing snacks and a place to meet before participating in the World Wide Flash Mob XVI at noon Saturday, June 22.

Adults and teens are getting to make Harry Potter crafts this summer. The first date is 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 18. Choose from past projects that were so alluring.

Coding camps are starting this summer for teens ages 12 to 18 years old, meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 19. Use your own device or the library’s to work on this self-paced program. Coding for kids offers hands-on activities for children in grades kindergarten through 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29.

Children can learn some dances including tap dancing and bebop at 2 p.m. every Thursday. The practices end with a performance for friends and family at the end of July. Move It Mondays is new and meets at 2 p.m. on Mondays to play exuberant games, both indoors and out.
