Area families enjoy the annual Independence Day fireworks over Winona Lake.

WINONA LAKE — The Symphony of the Lakes returns with the third summer concert of the 2019 Grace College and Village at Winona Festival of Music.

“Salute to America” will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Tabernacle Park. The free outdoor concert will feature patriotic favorites and music composed by Aaron Copland, Duke Ellington, Edward Elgar, John Williams and more. The annual Independence Day fireworks will follow the performance.

Community events around Independence Day weekend are a cherished tradition for many area families.

“Every year we hear attendees express their excitement about the fireworks concert,” said Dr. Walter Brath, the 2019 Festival of Music coordinator. “This year’s musical selections will not disappoint. We have a wide variety of featured composers and a guest conductor, Dr. Jason Thompson, from Indiana Wesleyan University.”

In case of rain, the concert will take place in the Winona Heritage Room, 901 Park Ave., Winona Lake. Audience members are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and arrive well before the 8 p.m. star time to get a seat.

Upcoming Festival of Music concerts include the Jazz Festival on July 27, the Southern Gospel concert with the Booth Brothers on Aug. 25, and the Grace College Sibs Weekend concert featuring Josh Garrels on Sept. 6.
