New Hope Pet Rescue is a nonprofit, volunteer run organization that rescues pets, primarily dogs and cats.

SYRACUSE — New Hope Pet Rescue is fundraising for a new, fenced-in, grassy play area for the dogs in its care.

It will be named for one of the longest residents of New Hope, Red. He now has a loving home.

Red, a former long time resident of New Hope Pet Rescue, now has a forever home but is the namesake of the new play area.

In honor of Red’s extended stay, the shelter wants to ensure that dogs like Red get the best care. The run would give them a grassy play area as well as a place to have meet and greets and to just enjoy themselves.

Donations can be mailed or delivered to New Hope Pet Rescue, Attention: Red’s Run, 72555 CR 29, Syracuse, IN 46567.

Red and his buddy, Sam, were found in October 2017 by a woman hiking in Kentucky. The dogs were emaciated, dehydrated and scared. She tried to find where they belonged but had no luck.

Named Red and Sam, the shelter nursed them back to health and hoped to place them together. That happened, but Red had to be returned due to boundary issues. Red ended up at New Hope for almost a year before he was adopted and became a  favorite of the volunteers.

While the shelter has a cement run for the dogs, it needs a fenced-in grassy area, so the dream was born.

Hours at the shelter are 5-7 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. Visitors are welcome to stop in during those times.

CR 29 is an extension of North Huntington Street in the town of Syracuse. It is located on the west side of the road before SR 6 is reached.
