WARSAW — During the brief Board of Aviation Commissioners meeting held Tuesday, June 11, Ken Ross of NGC Aviation Consultants informed the board that Warsaw Municipal Airport did not receive supplemental funding from the Federal Aviation Administration for its upcoming projects.

“That doesn’t mean you still don’t qualify, but there’s a lot of competition for those funds,” said Ross. “Evansville and Fort Wayne Airports received supplemental funding form the FAA this year because they have more activity and passengers.”

Ross also said he and Airport Manager Nick King talked with Marty Blake, manager of the Office of Aviation with the Indiana Department of Transportation, regarding the airport’s runway rehabilitation and power line lowering projects.

“These are big ticket items and they said they’re planning to fund them,” said Ross. “But we have to get in line behind the other projects the DoT is doing. They intend to do the runway rehab project for next year, the power line project for 2021 and the recovery of the displaced threshold from 2022 through 2024.”

“The DoT is also aware that cost estimates for the power line project may fluctuate depending on the cost of steel,” said King.

Board President Jay Rigdon asked Ross about the likelihood of the power line project actually happening in 2021.

“We’ve been saying that the project is a standalone project, but we could never get the FAA to agree to it being a standalone project until last fall,” said Ross. “They kept wanting to lump it with the roadway project, but they have now considered it as its own project because of the obstruction issues the lines are for roadways.”

The board’s next meeting will be at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 9.
