Lake Michigan Far Colder Than Normal For this Time Of Year
CHICAGO — It’s certainly more chills than thrills.
Right now the Great Lakes are colder than normal for this time of year.
It may feel warm out now, but in Southern Lake Michigan the water temperature is in the 50s.
That’s cold enough that if you just jump in the lake you could be in for a cold shock.
Water temperatures below 70 degrees could quickly lead to hypothermia.
If you plan to get in the lake water today, make sure to wear cold water protection gear.
And officials warn never mix alcohol with swimming diving or boating.
