NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Community Public Library Board of Trustees has finalized the architectural design and floor plan for its new library facility. MKM Architecture and Design, Fort Wayne, has been working with the library board and staff to design a one-story 19,000 square foot building that will house the new library.

The interior will include a common lounge area, private reading and study areas, large meeting room with kitchen, smaller conference rooms, youth department with play area, genealogy and local history department, learning space with public computers, outdoor patio space and additional room to expand the library collection of books and materials.

The new free-standing facility will be built on land south of the North Webster Community Center where the old North Webster High School once stood. The library obtained ownership of the south portion of the community center previously and began demolition of the old school on May 6. North Webster Community Center retains ownership of the remaining north portion of the building and continues its normal operations as a community center.

Once the demolition debris is cleared, site preparation for the new facility will begin with plans for construction to be completed in 2020. Anticipating future growth, the library has been setting aside building funds for the last 14 years. Other financing is expected to be obtained through a capital campaign, grants, fundraising and bonds.

North Webster Community Public Library is currently located in the north end of the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St., and will continue to serve its patrons at its present location throughout the construction process.
