CLAYPOOL — The Claypool Town Council amended several town ordinances regarding parking, intersections and alleyways during its meeting Tuesday, May 21.

An ordinance regarding one-way alleys near Section and Walnut Streets was voided. The alleyways will now allow two-way travel. One-way road signs at the alleyways are set to be removed immediately.

To allow for safer travel in town limits, the Claypool Town Council amended an ordinance to make the intersection of Clay and Walnut Streets a four-way stop.

Council also amended an ordinance regarding parking in the housing addition on the west side of town, located near Rebecca and Lindsay Streets. Parking will now be allowed on the south side of West Noah Street.

In other business, the council discussed the possibility of a new tractor mower for the town. A trade-in for the mower with Bobcat would be $2,700. Council voted to table the discussion and hold a special meeting on the mower to determine if the mower should be traded in or sold outright.

For the month of April, the Claypool Police Department responded to 158 calls for service. Thirteen arrests were made, eight of which were drug-related.

The council also heard a presentation from Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation CEO Alan Tio. Tio introduced himself to town council members and discussed KEDCo’s mission statement. He encouraged council to contact him with any questions regarding economic development in the area.

“Kosciusko needs to become known for what we have here,” said Tio. “And every community in the county, even smaller ones like Claypool, matter for Kosciusko’s growth.”

To conclude the meeting, Travis Neff, an attorney with Tuner Valentine LLP in Warsaw, introduced himself to the council and town residents at the meeting. Council members decided to set a meeting time with Neff to determine if he will take the position of town attorney. Town Attorney John Barrett has been absent from the council’s April and May meetings. A reason for Barrett’s absence was not given.

The council’s next meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18.
