TIPPECANOE VALLEY 3, TRITON 2

It took two weeks and a pair of bus trips, but Tippecanoe Valley was able to close out Triton in a continuation round in Bourbon.

With its April 10 match suspended to rain with Triton leading 2-1, Valley had no margin for error if it wanted to get a court victory.

Triton had already collected wins at one and three singles play thanks to the work of Molly McFarland and Ivy Powell earlier in the month. Valley had its one court tally from its two doubles team of Kaitlin Neese and Haley Baker.

Hannah Parson held a 3-2 lead in the third set over Maddie Ritchison on the two singles court as play resumed in much better – sunny and less breezy – conditions Monday. Parson maintained her lead throughout and staved off Ritchison in the third set to claim a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

At one doubles, Valley’s Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley also came into the third set tied at one set apiece, and held a 3-1 advantage over Emma Hepler and Lexia Hostrawser. The Viking duo also maintained its lead throughout and put away Triton, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to grab the third court win and the team tally.

Valley improves to 4-2 on the season, Triton falls to 3-4. The Vikings play again Tuesday at Peru in TRC action while Triton regroups for a Wednesday roadie at North Judson in HNAC play.

NORTHWOOD 3, NORTHRIDGE 2

NorthWood’s singles play continued to shine as the Panthers eeked out a Northern Lakes Conference win at Northridge.

Alex Jesse and Gretchen Adams both claimed straight set wins, Jesse over Brynne Gaylor two and two at No. 2 and Adams one and three over Taylin Cress at No. 3.

After Northridge earned its wins from doubles courts, a 6-1, 7-5 score at No. 1 from Peyton Kieper and Cassidy Overholt against Riley Graber and Lauren Mikel, then a 7-5, 6-1 score at No. 2 from Amaya Guevara and Kylee Bontrager over Caroline Mullet and Kate Stillson, all eyes went to No. 1 singles.

There, NorthWood’s Reegan Miller took the first set, 6-4, only for Riley Wheatley to take the second set at the same score. In the deciding third, Miller was steady enough to pull out a 6-2 winner to give NorthWood the match.

Northridge won the JV courts by a 9-2 margin. Winners for NorthWood were Abigail Vorhis in singles and Reese Barhydt and Maya Engbrecht at doubles.

NorthWood (5-1, 2-1 NLC) continues its busy week Tuesday at home against Goshen.

FORT WAYNE CARROLL 5, WARSAW 0

The No. 4 ranked Chargers proved too much for the Tigers in Warsaw.

Carroll won all five of the courts in straight sets, led by a love and one final at No. 3 singles by Bailey Newman over Rachel Boyle. Mia Toscos took care of Alyssa Zellers one and two at No. 1 and Katelyn VanWyngarden sped past Taylor Schoaf one and one at No. 2 singles.

Doubles were much of the same, where Katie Beier and Maria Casiano got past Rachel Yeager and Raegan Merchant three and love at No. 1 and Cecelia Martin and Tori Skender pulled away from Amy Herendeen and Maddie Ray four and love at No. 2.

Warsaw would show some depth in a 7-6 JV result. Mikayla Roller and Anne Burnet earned a doubles win and both Izzy Ray and Gracie Lewis claimed singles wins.

Warsaw (2-2) jumps back into NLC play Tuesday in hosting Elkhart Memorial.
