WARSAW — Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory is seeking minor revisions to the recently constructed Fire Station No. 3 from the contractor, Mosaic Building Solutions, of Fort Wayne.
The fire territory sent a letter notifying Mosaic of several problems they expect to be fixed but have not heard a response. On Tuesday, the fire territory board met for its regular meeting and was updated on the issue by Fire Chief Michael Wilson.
The city engineer has reviewed the circumstances and the fire territory attorney has been updated. A draft letter has been sent to the mayor and will soon be forwarded to Mosaic, Wilson said.
The fire territory has stopped final payments over the issue and still has a construction bond to use as leverage.
Problems include the slope of the floor in the handicap bathroom, which causes water to drain in the wrong direction; the need for more caulking on exterior stone; the lack of a wall to serve as a barrier between heating and cooling areas; and some electrical issues with doors, Wilson said.
“It’s not like there are major construction issues. Just minor, little things that just need to be fixed,” Wilson said.
In another matter, Wilson said plans are progressing for installation of a Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station No. 2. He said a contractor with experience in installing baby boxes has been lined up to do the work.
Baby Boxes are used as a last resort for mothers who are unsure if they want to keep their newborn baby.
Wilson said he believes installation will happen soon, but did not offer a date.
