WARSAW — Kosciusko County Attorney Chad Miner announced to the council last week that a petition sent to the state regarding a possible regional sewer district will need a few minor tweaks before progress can be made on the project.

At the council’s regular monthly meeting Thursday, March 14, Miner told the council that a petition was filed with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management on Dec. 27. Once the petition is approved, IDEM will hold a public hearing and if all things go well, a board will be named to oversee the sewer district.

“There are a few minor changes that we need to make to the petition through an addendum,” Miner said. “IDEM has appointed a person in their office to begin the process on this.”

Those changes, according to Miner, include providing IDEM with the median income of residents within the proposed district and also a change on how the board will be selected.

According to Miner, two members of the proposed board will be representatives from the county council, along with two members of the board of commissioners. One member will be appointed representing Tippecanoe Township and one board member will be named representing Plain Township. The last board member will either be named by the Warsaw mayor or appointed by the commissioners.

According to Miner, the addendum was previously approved by the commissioners. The council unanimously approved his request.

If approved, the proposed sewer district will cover Tippecanoe and Chapman lakes.
