Warsaw Community Career Center Announces March Events
WARSAW — The Warsaw Career Center offers monthly workshops that can be completed in increments, with assessments and certifications.
This is the place to prepare for a growing business and manufacturing world that demands more digital literacy and online or tech skills. Goodwill also offers tuition support for individuals interested in becoming IT support professionals developed by Google and hosted by Coursera. This certificate program can help you become ready for an entry-level job in IT support in about eight months.
The Community Career Center is located at 751 Anchorage Point Drive, Warsaw, adjacent to the Goodwill retail store.
Open Practice Interviews
- 11 a.m. to noon Mondays, March 4 and 18
The Goodwill Career Center will host open mock interviews for anyone who would like to practice interview skills. If you’re nervous about being interviewed or struggling to land a job because of the process, these mock sessions will prepare you for the types of questions, from basic to personal, that may be asked. We’ll discuss how to answer the difficult questions and what to avoid. Learn how to appear confident and highlight skills in conversation. Another topic will be how personal appearance makes a great first impression. Please choose a date and time to stop by and practice interview skills and receive a 25 percent discount to the Goodwill retail store.
Criminal Record Expungement Info Session
- 10:45 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 12
Don’t let a criminal record keep you from the job you want. Take action to learn more about expunging and sealing your past record. Jordan Huttenlocker with The Northern Indiana Christian Legal Clinic will be at the Warsaw Career Center at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 12. The legal clinic will cover how to go about expunging and sealing a felony and/or misdemeanor on a record and will provide the process individuals need to take. The session will include handouts and the potential for follow-up one-on-one intake meetings with the legal clinic.
The Beaman Home Outreach Hours
- 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, March 12, 19, and 26
Starting March 12, The Beaman Home will begin Outreach Office Hours at the Warsaw Goodwill Career Center from 1 to 4 p.m. to connect survivors of trauma, domestic abuse and sexual assault with services. This includes counseling, support groups, life skills, job skills and case management assistance.
Microsoft Excel Workshop
- 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 19
This class will introduce you to the Microsoft Excel program and its components. Learn the Excel language and understand cells, rows and columns. Learn how to create and customize a spreadsheet, format, add worksheets, search and filter, and more. Start where you are comfortable. Assessments are available to test your knowledge, with a chance to earn a certificate upon demonstrated competency. No experience is needed to attend, and all skill levels are welcome.
Google IT Certificate Overview Session
- 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 20
This short overview session will cover the Google IT Certificate and voucher assistance that Goodwill offers. Goodwill Industries of Michiana provides tuition support for individuals interested in the IT Support Professional Certificate developed by Google and hosted on Coursera. This certificate program can help you become ready for an entry-level job in IT support in about eight months. No experience is necessary. Check out this info session and learn how to advance your career to make $50,000 plus a year, starting out.
Veterans Employment Services
- 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 21
Daniel Reed from WorkOne will be at the Goodwill Career Center to provide information for veterans on services in the local area. He will offer one-on-one employment help, employer resources, information on benefits and contacts for further services.
