We will return to our series on Camille Pissarro but first let’s find an interlude to introduce two exhibits you may wish to visit.

Beginning March 5, you can enjoy the very capable artistry of Leo Dean Jansen at the Warsaw City Hall Art Gallery. His photography has bounded onto the scene with a deep appreciation from both his fans and photography judges. Jansen, a retired orthopedic surgeon, has lived in Warsaw for 26 years, having moved here to the orthopedic capital of the world in order to establish a medical practice.

Jansen began a serious study and research in photography when he felt a need to document his family travels to exotic and distant places in the world. Second only to his medical work, he found his passion for traveling with his wife and three children a great joy. His desire to commemorate these trips and vacations led him to continual learning and experimentation in developing a mastery in photography.

This mastery became evidenced as work entered in various competitions began winning many awards, including the highly respected and equally competitive Honeywell Center annual photography contest at the Clark Center Gallery in Wabash.

A limited amount of formal training has not been restrictive and this primarily self-taught artist has shown a natural talent and added a final passion to his life with his three primary interests of landscape photography, panoramic photography, and wildlife photography. He learned much about photography including new means of printing final products.

He has had an amazing number of photos published in the Your Shot section of National Geographic, well-known for outstanding photography.

With children now grown, Jansen is taking full advantage of retirement to travel in their van with their rescued dog Neb, who enjoys traveling with them to capture a permanent remembrance of beautiful areas of the United States. They are particularly fond of the American Southwest.

The Warsaw City Hall Art Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Jansen plans to spend one or two days at City Hall per week during the exhibit so you will have a chance to talk with him in person as you enjoy his spectacular images. We will provide specific dates and times next week.
