PIERCETON — A brief Pierceton Town Council meeting Monday, Feb. 11, focused on the continuing discussion of unsafe buildings in the town, while also tabling a discussion on land parcels for the council’s March meeting.

In previous meetings, the council has discussed three properties in town limits that require repairs and alterations. Property owner Brad Stahl was at the meeting and was presented with a packet compiled by Town Marshal Tim Sammons of what work still needs to be done on the properties.

Town Attorney Tammy Keirn suggested the council set an executive session regarding steps going forward with Stahl’s properties. In June 2018, Stahl was given six months to address his properties’ issues, which included repairing the buildings and testing a condemned residence, located at 102 N. Washington St., for indications of methamphetamine.

The council voted to hold an executive session Feb. 14 to discuss future actions for the properties.

During the meeting, the Pierceton Town Council also discussed three acres of land in the town that may potentially be purchased. Town Manager Chip Hill said he would ask Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation about their thoughts on pricing for the available land. Further discussion was tabled to the council’s March meeting.

Hill also said that an area on Fifth Street, behind St. Francis Xavier Parish, is experiencing flooding issues. The county surveyor has been contacted about the issue.

The council’s next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 11.
