MENTONE — Firefighting units from multiple units responded to a house fire Thursday night, Jan. 31 northeast of Mentone.

Units from Burket, Mentone and Warsaw fire departments, along with Lutheran EMS and several law enforcement agencies were dispatched to the blaze at 5819 West CR 200S at around 9:30 p.m.

By the time units arrived on scene, firefighters reported back to Central Dispatch that the first was fully involved. Black smoke billowed from the top of the two-story home and flames could be seen from inside an upstairs dormer.

Firefighters battled the sub-freezing temperatures and tankers were expended and had to leave the scene to be re-filled.
