CULVER — A former Army soldier from Culver was working to get his military dog back. His wife now tells us they are officially adopting the dog.

Joseph Steenbeke served in Afghanistan with his bomb-sniffing dog, Tess. He had to say goodbye when they got back from Afghanistan.

After working to get her back, Stephanie Steenbeke, Joseph’s wife, tells us they got a call from Congresswoman Jackie Walorski Wednesday to tell them they are adopting Tess.

“We are awaiting further details and need to fill out some paperwork to finalize, but she is officially ours and beyond excited,” she said.

Steenbeke and his dog Tess would search for bombs to protect his company.
