SYRACUSE – It was a night of firsts of sorts for the Wawasee gymnastics team. Hosting its first-ever meet at the old Syracuse Elementary School, the team showed off its new home. In doing so, Wawasee sped past a short-handed West Noble side 100.875-61.675 to get its first dual win of the season.
The new home, set up because of the current construction in the high school annex gym, saw Wawasee (1-2) throw its four varsity performers into all-around roles. In that, Jada Parzygnot rose up to claim honors in all-around at 34.15 to lead all competitors. Parzygnot was best on floor (9.28) and vault (8.7) while sitting second on bars (7.88) and beam (8.3).
Alyssa Minnix had the top bars score at 7.95 and Aundreya Wegener posted an 8.78 for the best vault score. Talia Kuhl was second on vault at 8.6 and Minnix broke into the nines with a 9.05 on floor.
West Noble’s top performer was Kirstin Knox, who was fourth on both bars (6.0) and beam (6.8).
Kenady Meerzo posted 7.6s on both vault and floor in JV competition for the Warriors.
“It’s nice to get a win under our belt,” stated Wawasee assistant coach Sarah Wegener. “Now we have the rest of this week to prepare for the Carter Classic on Saturday, which is a new meet for us. We are really looking forward to seeing the Fort Wayne teams.”
The Carter Classic is hosted by Fort Wayne Concordia.
