IHSAA Crowns Six Football Champions
INDIANAPOLIS – The Thanksgiving weekend saw the fall season come to a close with championship football in the six classes of the IHSAA.
One team from the general area, Pioneer, took part and capped its incredible season with a championship in Class 1-A, repeating a the cream of the smallest class. The Panthers demolished North Vermillion, 60-0, to finish 15-0 and run its unbeaten streak to 30 straight games after finishing 15-0 last season. The Hoosier North Athletic Conference powerhouse won its third state championship and made its fourth appearance in the finals in the past five years.
For the season, Pioneer won its 15 games by an average of over 62 points per night and shut out 11 of its 15 opponents, including Triton in the regional by a 66-0 count. The Trojans were just one of four teams to score on Pioneer, a 56-6 loss in week six. Panther quarterback Jack Kiser, who is a leading candidate for Mr Football, is committed to the University of Notre Dame, and is among a handful of college recruits at the school of 288 students.
